Capital Region Board of Cooperative Educational Services

Company Overview

Our mission:
Capital Region BOCES provides educational leadership, services and support to meet the needs of our students and school districts.

Whom we Serve:
Capital Region BOCES is the sixth largest BOCES in New York State, and delivers more than 300 educational and administrative services to its 23 component school districts and to the City School District of Albany. Combined, these districts educate more than 80,000 students in the Albany, Schoharie, Schenectady and Saratoga counties of New York State. In addition, Capital Region BOCES provides many services to more than 150 school districts outside the Capital Region area.

What is a BOCES?:
There are 37 BOCES, or Board of Cooperative Educational Services, in New York State. The New York State Legislature created BOCES in 1948 to provide shared educational programs and services. Together they serve all but nine of the state's 721 school districts.

Capital Region BOCES was formed in 1953 to serve Albany County school districts. It was expanded to include Schenectady County districts in 1960, Schoharie County districts in 1962 and a portion of Saratoga County districts in 1994.
