Company History

American Family Life Insurance Company was founded on November 17, 1955 by three brothers, John, Paul and Bill Amos. In its first year of operations, Aflac had 6,426 policyholders and $388,000 in assets.

Who would have thought over 50 years ago, that the small, one-room operation in downtown Columbus, Georgia, would one day be a thriving Fortune 500 international insurance company listed on the New York Stock Exchange? Today, Aflac has over $79 billion dollars in assets and insures more than 50 million people worldwide.
