Company Profile

Company Overview

Jackson National Life Insurance Company®, founded by the late A.J. (Tony) Pasant, opened for business on August 30, 1961, in Jackson, Michigan. The company is named after Andrew Jackson, the seventh president of the United States and a hero of Pasant. Jackson® sold its first insurance policy on September 5, 1961, to Mr. Win Schuler, a prominent Michigan restaurateur.

Building on these humble beginnings, Jackson quickly became one of the fastest-growing insurance companies in America. The company's success caught the attention of the United Kingdom’s Prudential plc (not affiliated with Prudential Financial), which acquired Jackson® in 1986. The acquisition provided the financial backing the company needed to expand its operations.

Jackson is headquartered in Lansing, Michigan. The company is one of mid-Michigan’s largest employers, with about 1,400 associates based at the Home Office in Lansing and more than 1,100 additional associates at affiliate and subsidiary companies located throughout the U.S.

Clark Manning was named president and CEO of Jackson in November 2001, and has played a pivotal role in the company’s financial success. Jackson has evolved from a single-channel insurance company offering few products to a $80-billion* firm offering multiple products through multiple distribution channels throughout the United States. Today, Jackson is one of the largest life insurance companies in the U.S. and one of America's leading writers of annuities.

*Jackson also has more than $63 billion (GAAP) in policy liabilities set aside primarily to pay future policyowner benefits
